People today are very health conscious. Image People tend to choose products that will help them feel better or healthier.

One of the products that is currently booming these days are diet soft drinks like Diet Coke, Pepsi Max, Diet Sprite and so forth which contain no sugar and less calories. But are they healthier than normal soft drinks?

Diet drinks use artificial sweeteners instead of real sugar which are high in calories. These are basically fake sugars. What you don't realize about them, is that they are unsafe and can cause serious medical illnesses. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1974 have found concerns about the safety of these artificial sweeteners.

Aspartame have been linked to illnesses such as cancer, brain tumors, brain lesions, and lymphoma.

Aspartame is being used in products like Pepsi Max and Diet Coke. In fact, a 2007 study from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration reports that it may cause cancer if aspartame is induced at a large amount.

One possible reason why it may cause serious medical illnesses is how the body metabolizes the sweeteners in your body. That is, how the body breaks down or absorbs the sweeteners in your body. Sugar in the body is used for energy. When you use fake sugar, the body is tricked that it is using real sugar.

So when your body ingests artificial sweeteners, the body thinks that it can get energy through the artificial sweeteners. But the body doesn't get the energy that it needs. As a result, ingesting high amounts of artificial sweeteners can cause fatigue, tiredness and behavioral problems. For instance, have you ever felt that you lack of energy or drive when drinking diet soft drinks? Artificial sweeteners may be the cause.

So is diet soft drinks are healthier than normal soft drinks. The answer is no. Normal soft drinks may have high calories, but the health risk is much lower than with diet soft drinks. Bookmark and Share
