Breast cancer is the No.1 killer of Mexican women, with 12 killed by the disease every day, Alejandro Mohar, director general of the Mexican cancer institute said Wednesday.

The issue threatens the health of all Mexicans as one third of women with breast cancer would die eventually, Mohar said in a seminar held here.

According to Mohar, 63 pecent of breast cancer patients are females aged between 30 to 45.

Beside breast cancer, mouth cancer is also troubling women, Mohar said, citing that the cases of mouth cancer worldwide, whose determinant factor was found to be human papillomavirus, have been on the rise.

Women who smoke and drink alcohol are more likely to have mouth cancer, Mohar said, noting that one of the 100,000 deaths was caused by mouth cancer.
